This Week in Destiny 2: Events, Updates, Ascendant Challenge – June 25, 2019

Greetings, o Guardian mine. Yes, I refer to you, oh Bearer of Light. Once again we find ourselves at the outset of another week. The calendar rolls on, and the end draws nearer and nearer. In the interim, let us amuse ourselves, yes? The Menagerie awaits. And for those to whom such diversions have become tiresome, I present you this week with a greater challenge. Fight for your Emperor, and grow fat with strength. For that… is your Destiny… 2.

Heroic Menagerie Launches in Destiny 2

As if the regular Menagerie wasn’t tough enough, the Heroic version of the event launched today in Destiny 2. There are four changes from the normal Menagerie. First, you need to have a Power Level of at least 740 to start the event, which scales up to a staggering 770 by its conclusion. Second, the Extinguish modifier is in place. Third, you’ll only see each encounter once — if you haven’t filled the points bar by the time you’ve done the circuit, you won’t get to see the boss. And finally, there is no matchmaking.

That last detail is disappointing, but in the context of the other changes makes sense. With Extinguish, a Total Party Kill means getting sent back to orbit. And unlike the normal Menagerie, you can actually fail. These changes make the Menagerie into much more of a traditional Raid experience, which could be very frustrating to attempt with random matchmaking.

Destiny 2 Ascendant Challenge — June 25, 2019

This week’s challenge can be found in the Aphelion’s Rest Lost Sector: The Strand. The portal is about halfway through the Sector, right before the last large area where the boss and its corresponding chest are found.

When you reach the area, you will notice a large central arena surrounded by a number of crystals and bigass sword-bearing knights. Avoid the latter like the plague. They’re tough and can chop through you like driftwood.

To finish the challenge, you need to find and destroy four Taken blights that spawn around the outskirts of the area. Pesky, infinite shadow thralls and other enemies will try to slow your progress. So keep moving while you destroy the blights as fast as you can.

Those crystals in the room become vulnerable when all four blights are destroyed. Destroy all the crystals to finish the challenge. A good tip here is to keep your distance and use something like a bow or a scout rifle to pick the objects off from a safe distance. But keep in mind that the knights will continue to chase you around the area. Keep moving and the knights shouldn’t be a problem.
