Despite the fact that Bungie has been more tight lipped this season than in previous iterations of the format, we still know that Destiny 2 has some exotic quests on the way. One of which starts with a step called Enter the Vault, which rewards The Fourth Horseman exotic shotgun. Want to get your hands on it? This guide will walk you through all of the ten objectives you need to complete to get there.
The good news is that this quest seems relatively easy at first glance! Outside of the final step, which does require a Legendary Lost Sector completion (those are around Power Level 1000), it looks like most of this can be completed in a single sitting.

Enter the Vault Quest Steps – The Fourth Horseman
Step 1: Enter the Vault – Access the Vault Through Zavala’s Office
This quest comes from Zavala who thinks he’s just sending you on a quick trip to his office. Apparently he has a hidden vault where he’s just been hanging onto The Fourth Horseman this entire time. Zavala????
Note: Players are experiencing issues with Zavala’s office door not opening. If this happens to you, go to orbit and come back.
You can find Zavala’s Office in the scaffolding below the first bridge over to the area with Ikora and crew. Jump down and head down the highlighted stairs.
Take a left and to the right, one of the doors will be open. Zavala’s office is just inside. Feel free to poke around a bit and then head downstairs.
But of course Zavala didn’t give you a code for the Vault.
Thankfully, Tower security is awful and you can get in via a duct under the staircase where you entered the room.
Keep following it until you enter a storage room. There will be a shelf you can climb to get up. Do so.
Now just follow the ducts and eventually you’ll drop into the vault! Interact with the missing weapon cache to complete this task.
Gain access to the vault through the secret pathway in Zavala’s office.
“I’m trusting you, Guardian.” —Commander Zavala
Step 2: Missing in Action – Return to Zavala
…And of course the weapon is gone. At least Banshee-44 has an excuse. We should go tell Zavala.
Return to Zavala and inform him the weapon is missing from the vault.
“Not a simple retrieval, after all.” —Ghost
Step 3: Fresh Lead – Speak with Ana
Hopefully Ana has a lead because Zavala doesn’t know where to start.
See if Ana has some tech to help track the missing weapon.
“Time to do some digging.” —Ana Bray
Step 4: On the Hunt – Defeat Cabal or Complete Public Events on Mars
Ana is willing to help, but she needs intel. Kill Cabal or complete public events on Mars to gather it. Each Cabal only awards about half a percentage point so you’d need to kill 200 Cabal. Work on public events and Escalation Protocol instead. Escalation Protocol rewards ten percent per level. It should take you about eight levels to complete this step.
Collect intel for Ana by defeating Cabal or completing public events on Mars.
“This reeks of Cabal. Truthfully, a lot of this planet does, but this instance has their fingerprints all over it. This gun was designed to be the ultimate Cabal slayer. Of course they’d want to take it out of our hands. I need you to collect some intel from the Cabal to track it down.”
Step 5: Return to Ana – Talk to Ana
Okay, now Ana can give us our first lead.
Take the collected intel back to Ana and see what she can discover.
“We’re close. I can feel it.” —Ana Bray
Step 6: In the Shadows – Defeat Psions and Loot Cabal Chests
Sounds like the Cabal are up to no good. Calus’ double agents might be able to help so we need to gather their intel now.
For this step, we recommend Firebase Hades on the EDZ. There are a lot of quickly spawning Psions in this area and plenty of Cabal loot chests. Chests give a full 20 percent progress so prioritize those!
Ana will need you to bring her some information from Calus’s double agents in the Red Legion. Defeat Psions and loot Cabal chests to gather it.
“Calus’s network reaches far and wide. His shadows are everywhere.” —Ana Bray
Step 7: Under Our Nose – Speak to Benedict 99-40
Oops. Seems like good old Benedict 99-40 has been withholding information from us. Time to confront them.
Now that you’ve gathered intel from Calus’s agents, see if Benedict 99-40 can be persuaded to help.
“Why do we let him stay here?” —Ghost
Step 8: Dirty Work – Defeat Enemies, Complete Public Events, or Complete Patrols on EDZ
Of course Benedict needs a favor. Go kill enemies, or do public events and patrols on the EDZ. Seraph Tower public events do not seem to reward any more progress than regular public events despite taking significantly longer.
Benedict needs you to eliminate the encryption signals coming from the EDZ. Defeat combatants, complete public events, and complete patrols.
“I’m sure Devrim will appreciate this, at least.” —Ghost
Step 9: Rein It In – Return to Benedict 99-40
Back to Benedict.
Return to Benedict 99-40.
“No more cleaning up Calus’s messes, agreed?” —Ghost
Step 9: Lost and Found – Complete Legendary Lost Sector: Quarry
We have the location of the weapon, but until release we aren’t sure if you already have it or are going to pick it up. Either way, you need to complete the Legendary version of the Quarry Lost Sector and The Fourth Horseman will be waiting inside the sector chest!
Note: The Quarry Legendary Lost Sector is on rotation so it may not always be available. Bungie has intervened so you can run it on March 17 or March 18 before it goes back to the normal rotation schedule.
Benedict has given you the location of the missing weapon in exchange for using this Cabal slayer to smash the Red Legion.
“The old smash and grab. Let’s remind them not to mess with Vanguard.” —Ghost
And that’s it! Complete all this and you should have The Fourth Horseman unlocked. Enjoy!
