Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen is officially live, so grab your weapon of choice and get ready to face the Cabal horde. Revolving around stopping Emperor Calus’ daughter Caiatl from uniting the Cabal, players will need to take down various champions that are vying for a seat on her War Counsel. With players battling against Caiatl’s generals for week, the war between us and the Cabal is finally coming to a close this season. Capping off the Season 13 storyline is the new Proving Ground strike, which has players infiltrating a massive Cabal tank to bring down Caiatl’s champion. While you will run this once for the quest, if you want the Seasonal Title you’ll need to complete this strike multiple times to kill the Cabal VIPs.
Tied to the Caiatl’s Cabal Triumph, throughout the strike there are multiple sections where one of these champions can appear. Whether they show up or not is mostly random, but their spawn locations are set. Meaning, if you need to kill Optus Taxaat, this Psion will always have a chance to randomly appear in the same room. Remember, you always want to damage the VIP, otherwise, if another player kills it you may not get any credit for taking down this target.
Cabal VIP Locations
Valas Ozysas – Tank Door
The first VIP you will come across is Valas Ozysas who will be the large Cabal Colossus that runs down the ramp after you work your way up the hill.
Optus Taxaat, Val Kladior, Val Trekitus, Val Cunqu’us – Hanger
This portion of the strike is broken up into two distinct phases, each of which has a chance to spawn two of the Cabal above. When you arrive, a wave of enemies and two Interceptors will come out of the doors and attack. When this happens both Optus Taxaat and Val Kladior have a chance to spawn. You could get both, one, or neither of them. It’s completely random, so make sure to go to the far end of the room and check before you start killing everything.
After you defeat this wave, two tanks and more enemies will arrive. During this portion Val Cunqu’us and Val Trekitus have a chance to spawn as well. Similar to the previous phase, make sure to damage and kill these VIPs first before moving on. Remember, these enemies are tied to specific phases in this room, so you won’t ever see a VIP like Optus Taxaat show up when the tanks drive out.
Val Cempas & Val Vinca’ar – Core Room One
Proceed through the tank until you reach the first room where all of the dirt, rocks, and grime are being ground under the treads. This will also be where you pick up the first core for the central room. In this section, either Val Cempas or Val Vinca’ar will spawn near the far end of the platform directly adjacent to the door you enter through. I’ve yet to see them spawn together, so you’ll definitely be a little reliant on RNG to make them appear.
Optus Vocca & Val Veorthus – Core Room Two
After you fight your way through the center room, you’ll be tasked with obtaining a second core. This room is almost identical to the previous VIP room. When you arrive, jump to the other side and kill the Cabal waiting for you. There’s a chance that either Optus Vocca or Val Veorthus will be there waiting. If you get Optus Vocca, make sure to check behind the boxes since this Psion likes to hide.
Ignovun, Chosen of Caiatl – Boss
The final VIP is just the boss of the strike, Ignovun. There are no VIPs that spawn during this battle, so just focus on killing this boss.
