FFXIV Hatching Tide Event Guide: How to Get the Eat Egg Emote and Fortune Eggs

Bunnies are on the loose and we're not talking about Viera or Loporrits! Get eggcited for a wild FATE for this FFXIV event.

The latest seasonal event in Final Fantasy XIV has us chasing down wild rabbits, collecting eggs, and handing out decorated eggs for Easter-like festivities. While it’s a goofy event with some cute gags, catching bunnies and getting that vaunted Eat Egg emote is serious business. We have you covered here with everything you need to know about the FFXIV Hatching-tide event.

How to Start the Hatching-tide Quest

First thing’s first, the limited-time Hatching-tide event is happening now and will continue until April 27 at 7:59 a.m. PT. You have until that date and time to participate and earn the Hatching-tide rewards.

To get the starting quest “Hippity, Hoppity, Happily,” you need to talk to the NPC Jihli Aliapoh in Old Gridania at Mih Khetto’s Amphitheater (X: 10.2, Y: 9.4). She’ll introduce you to what’s going on with the event and why odd-looking rabbits and chickens are beefing with each other. You’ll then have to track down some NPCs around Gridania — it all gets marked on your map.

The somewhat challenging part is with the limited-time FATE called “Happiness is a Warm Bunny,” which is required in order to finish the questline and earn the currency necessary to purchase Hatching-tide event rewards.

Happiness is a Warm Bunny FATE and Fortune Eggs

During the event quest, the area this FATE spawns in gets marked on your map. Just fast travel to Brentbranch Meadows in Central Shroud, head south around the coordinates X: 25.0, Y: 29.0, and wait for the FATE to spawn. Depending on when it last appeared, it may take a few minutes for it to spawn again. Be patient and wait in this area until it appears. Once it does, be sure to click “Join FATE” on your screen.

This is a special FATE; it is not like normal combat FATEs where you fight an enemy. Here, you are catching wild bunnies running around. You have to use a special action called Seize — it gets automatically mapped to your hotbar once you join the FATE. Now it’s time to catch these bunnies.

A bunch of Happy Bunnies continuously spawn in the area and you have to catch them using the Seize action. However, they run too fast to catch easily on your own. Wait for the Foul-tempered Chickens to cast a blue point-blank circle AoE — this will stun all Happy Bunnies that get caught in the AoE. Make your move and catch stunned bunnies (who have stars over their heads) using Seize. Any player participating in the FATE will contribute to its completion by catching bunnies. Once enough total bunnies are caught, the FATE ends and all players get five (5) Fortune Eggs.

Look at those chickens!

Once you finish the FATE, return to Gridania and complete the rest of the questline. You’ll get a few cutscenes (all of which you can rewatch later) and be rewarded with the Hatching Bunny minion.

How to Get the Eat Egg Emote

The star reward of the event is the Eat Egg emote. But in order to get it, you’ll need a few more Fortune Eggs. The item you need is Ballroom Etiquette – An Egg a Day and it costs nine (9) Fortune Eggs. It is sold by Dreamer (Egg Advocate) in Old Gridania at Mih Khetto’s Amphitheater (X: 10.0, Y: 9.0).

This means you need to run the Happiness is a Warm Bunny FATE again. So head back to where the FATE spawns (Brentbranch Meadows in Central Shroud — X: 25.0, Y: 29), wait for it to appear again, and catch more bunnies. Once you’ve done that, get back to the Egg Advocate and claim your hard-boiled egg to eat at any time. Unfortunately, this does not grant a food bonus.

No one loves eggs more than Egg Advocate.

Hatching-tide Rewards and Cutscenes

Other rewards include the Eggsemplary Basket and the Hatching-tide Mobile for home decor — each costs three (3) Fortune Eggs. You can also snag 10 Hatching-tide Magicked Prisms for one (1) Fortune Egg.

Lastly, there are a total of four cutscenes where your Warrior of Light hands out decorated eggs to the citizens of Gridania. During the quest, you can only choose one. But if you want to see the other ones, speak to Nonotta (Egg Distributor), who is also near (X: 10.0, Y: 9.0). You can choose to watch the other cutscenes — there’s even one featuring some old friends from Garlond Ironworks, and it’s really cute!

Hatching-tide isn’t the only event going on right now in FFXIV. The Garo crossover collaboration has returned with gear sets and weapons modeled after what’s seen in Garo itself.
