From the outside, naming video games seems like a hard thing to do. For every solid, tone-setting title like The Last of Us, there’s something generic like Raid: Shadow Legends or something obtuse and ridiculous like Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Ubisoft Quebec seems to be learning that in real time with Gods & Monsters, the action adventure game the company revealed during last year’s E3, as it seems to have been renamed Immortals: Fenyx Rising.

News of this comes from the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee, where a game under this name has been rated for PC and Consoles. This being the new name for the game formerly known as Gods & Monsters was confirmed by known industry insider Daniel Ahmad on Twitter. The name change doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as Ubisoft had already said in a statement to Kotaku back in June that the title had been changed internally. But even with the subtitle, Immortals is still a fairly generic name, just maybe a little bit less so than Gods & Monsters.

While this isn’t exactly an official announcement, it stands to reason that Ubisoft is on the cusp of some kind of re-reveal of the game, especially after an unfinished demo was accidentally launched on Google Stadia briefly in June. The demo was only playable for about 30 minutes, but a few hundred people still managed to play it within the timeframe.

“Regretfully, on Thursday morning, we mistakenly made an E3 2019 demo version of Gods & Monsters from Ubisoft available on the Stadia store that was not intended for the public to play,” a Stadia rep told Kotaku. “A few hundred gamers were able to play it for less than 30 minutes. We sincerely apologize to our partners at Ubisoft for this mistake.”

Whenever this hypothetical re-reveal happens, it will likely come with a new release date or window, as the game was delayed last October and hasn’t been heard from since. From the sound of it, the game has undergone a fairly significant overhaul since its reveal, as Ubisoft Quebec executive producer Marc-Alexis Cote said in a statement issued to Kotaku says that various aspects of the game have changed since it was last in the public eye over a year ago.

“Our vision for the game formerly known as Gods & Monsters has evolved in surprising ways, which is common when developing exciting new worlds,” Cote said. “This footage is from our E3 2019 demo, which was shown to select press last June and is now over one year old. Much has changed since then in terms of features, tone, art and character design, and even the name of the game. We are hard at work and very excited to finally show players what we have created at the end of summer.”
