Every year, the Wandering Minstrel breaks from his daily duty of telling exaggerated tales of our primal-defying achievements. As a stand-in for director and producer Naoki Yoshida, this NPC comes around for The Rising, which celebrates Final Fantasy XIV with a little seasonal event that includes quests and rewards. He’s back for The Rising 2022 with what’s arguably the best reward yet: the Emet-Selch minion.
The Rising 2022 event starts on Saturday, August 27 at 12:00 a.m. PT and ends on Monday, September 12 at 7:59 a.m. PT. You begin the event by speaking the Wandering Minstrel located in Ul’dah – Steps of Nald (X: 10.1, Y: 8.4) and taking on the quest named “Newfound Journey” (you must be at least level 15).
The questline for The Rising is typically short but sweet. You can expect a few cutscenes featuring the Yoshi-P stand-in NPC who speaks to your Warrior of Light as if he’s speaking directly to you, the player. These tend to be bittersweet reflections on the journey you’ve been on and how far FFXIV itself has come, told through in-universe dialogue. Not gonna lie, last year’s got me real emotional.
You know what else is gonna get you real emotional? That Emet-Selch minion. It’s the reward for completing The Rising 2022 questline. What a treat! He’s just a smol war criminal, look at the dude!
There isn’t much else to this seasonal event, but The Rising tends to be a really good one regardless. Additionally, there will be a vendor offering a few items from previous years’ events, so be on the lookout for the NPC if you missed them before.
