Red Dead Gold Bars Guide: How to Earn Gold Bars and Cash

Want some help earning Gold Bars in Red Dead Online? First, you need to differentiate between the two types of currency available to you. For instance, what’s a Gold Bar and versus a Gold Nugget? What’s cash used for? We’ve got the answers to these questions and more, which should help get you become the totally loaded outlaw you were always meant to be.

Red Dead Online features two different types of currency: Gold Bars and Cash. Gold Bars are the premium currency in Red Dead Online. They aren’t 100 percent required to purchase the items you need in order to prosper, but they’re still good to have around. Gold unlocks items you may want or need faster, after all. If you’re not totally sure where the differences lie or how you go about getting either type of currency, read ahead!

How to Earn Gold Bars in Red Dead Online

You can obtain Gold Bars by playing through Red Dead Online as you would normally. Rockstar Games previously gave out special Gold Bars as gifts for players, but if you missed out on those, you can jump back in and grab some by playing through the special missions and events in the game.

You’ll be rewarded with Gold Nuggets instead, which count toward your overall Gold Bar count. It takes 100 Gold Nuggets to form a Gold Bar. If it helps, think of nuggets like pennies and bars like dollar bills. Since most gold rewards come in the form of nuggets, but most in-game items require Gold Bars, earning the premium currency is a pretty slow process. You’ll need to be patient if you want to earn them without spending real-world scratch. This method does require grinding, however. You need to play for quite a long time to earn Gold Bars in some cases.

Then there’s the other option — buying Gold Bars with money you earn in the real world. They’re now available in the game as a form of microtransaction. You can select different denominations of Gold Bars to purchase with cold, hard cash, from 25, 55, 150, 245, and 350 Gold Bar packages that range from $9.99 to $99.99. If you’ve never purchased Gold Bars before, you may be able to make a one-time purchase of 25 Gold Bars for 50 percent off. That’s $4.99 total. This isn’t the most economical breakdown, but the option is available to you, should you choose to fast track your Red Dead Online experience.

And if Red Dead 2 is anything like GTA Online, Rockstar will give away a lot of free stuff in the coming months. Keep an eye on the game’s official news feed for announcements. You just might catch one in time to get some freebies. If nothing else, it should help you realize when new events and updates come to the game.

How to Earn Cash in Red Dead Online

Cash, on the other hand, is a different beast. You can earn Cash much more easily than Gold Bars. The difference is that you cannot purchase Red Dead Cash with real-world money, like you would Gold Bars. You can just gain it by playing the game much, much more easily. We’ve got you covered on how you can earn Cash quickly, too. But if you need a refresher, remember that hunting game (like the Legendary Animals in the main story mode), going fishing, and even exploiting glitches (until they’re patched out, anyway) are some of the best methods.

If you simply play the game normally, you’ll be well on your way to earning a decent living in no time. Unfortunately, there are no quick fixes for rapidly collecting either type of currency (unless you decide to buy Gold Bars). You need to grind for a bit in both respects. That’s part of the fun of being an outlaw, though – amassing that hard-earned cash. Right?
