Final Fantasy 14 just got one of its biggest expansions yet. Shadowbringers, the third paid add-on to the popular MMO, brings with it a whole host of changes and new additions. Not the least of these is a main story campaign that rivals entire single-player Final Fantasy games all by itself. But the new FF14: Shadowbringers main quest isn’t completely straightforward at the outset. You might need just a little bit of help to begin. That’s why we’ve put together this guide on how and where to start the Shadowbringers main quest in FF14.

To begin the Shadowbringers Main Scenario Quest, you must first reach level 70 on any Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic (i.e. a combat class). Then complete the Stormblood main story quests until you pass the mission titled “A Requiem for Heroes.” This will trigger a series of cutscenes, as well as end credits for Stormblood in FF14.

Now you can access the first Shadowbringers main quest. It is called “The Syrcus Trench,” and it begins in Revenant’s Toll – Mor Dhona. This location should be familiar to you, since you return to it several times throughout the Final Fantasy 14 campaign. When you arrive in the area, however, you won’t be able to see a quest marker on your mini-map. This can be somewhat confusing, since accessing the mission from your journal will, in fact, show a marker in this location.

Don’t fret, though! The mission is still there — and plenty easy to find, if you know where to look. You might even remember running into similar issues on older quests before Shadowbringers. That’s because “The Syrcus Trench” actually starts inside The Rising Stones. This is the the communal building where several important NPCs hang out during the FF14 Main Scenario Quest. You also return here several times during the Containment Bay trials in Heavensward.

Now just head inside the building. Look towards the back of the structure — to the right of and just past the bar — and you should see a sparkling sign. It says “Rising Stones Entrance.” This is the real gateway to the Rising Stones, and how to start the Shadowbringers story quest in FF14. Target the sparkling spot and click it to enter.

Inside, you will finally see the Shadowbringers quest icon pop up on your mini-map. It turns out Tataru needed to speak with you again after the events of Stormblood (and specifically “A Requiem for Heroes”). Something has happened in your search for… Well, we won’t spoil that! Suffice it to say that things are looking pretty grim at the start of the Shadowbringers Main Scenario Quest. And, as you can probably guess from the name of the quest itself, you need to return to the site of the first Alliance Raid in FF14.
