FFXIV Patch 6.15 Job Changes, Black Mage and Ninja Nerfs

There isn't much going on when it comes to FFXIV 6.15 Job changes, but we have a breakdown of the slight PVP tweaks anyway!

It’s usually safe to bet on notable Job changes with each patch in Final Fantasy XIV. However, Patch 6.15 is an exception to that rule. While we’ve seen some significant Job adjustments recently, like in Patch 6.1, Patch 6.11, and Patch 6.11a, this latest update kept things to a minimum by making minor tweaks to only two Jobs, specifically for PVP.

Yup, that means all Jobs across the board remain the same for the core PVE gameplay of FFXIV. So here, we’ll go through the changes made to Black Mage and Ninja in PVP.

Black Mage (Patch 6.15 Changes)

As promised by director and producer Naoki Yoshida, the FFXIV team essentially rolled back some of the buffs they made to Black Mage in PVP. In a blog post on The Lodestone, Yoshida said that the improvements “went too far” and promised that they weren’t trying to make the Job overpowered because it’s Yoshida’s main.

After all that, here are the Patch 6.15 changes made to Black Mage:

  • Paradox: Charges have been removed.
  • Night Wing: Half-asleep effect no longer reduces movement speed.
  • Soul Resonance: Apocatastasis damage debuff effect reduced from 20% to 10%.

To be fair, Black Mage was lacking in PVP prior to Patch 6.11a. We ranked it at B- / C+ in our PVP tier list since the Job was difficult to play optimally without a payoff to match the effort. Especially in the new Crystalline Conflict mode, Black Mage wasn’t always a good fit. At the end of the day, many of the important Patch 6.11a adjustments still apply, which includes the reduced cast timers, damage potency boosts, and increases to status effect durations.

Ninja (Patch 6.15 Changes)

From our experience, Ninja can be extremely dangerous in the right situations for PVP. With high burst damage potential and several tricks up its sleeve, a good Ninja can turn the tide with some effective knockouts. Not too much has changed with Patch 6.15, but Ninja mains should at least be aware of what’s up.

  • Shukuchi: The Hidden effect will dispel if you use Sprint.
  • Meisui: Base cure potency has been reduced from 10,000 to 8,000.

In practice, this shouldn’t change much for how Ninja is currently played in PVP. Shukuchi is a little less effective, and while it’s an important piece of Ninja’s skillset, the nerf won’t really disrupt high-level play. We see it staying in its spot as an A-ranked PVP Job in our tier list.
