You are going to need every advantage you can scrounge up if you want to survive The Last of Us Part 2. Two of the best pieces of gear you can acquire is the Short Grip Holster and the Long Gun Holster. These give you additional weapon slots in Ellie’s quick-select inventory, allowing you to bounce between two primary weapons and two sidearms without having to hold Square. At first glance, this may seem like just a luxury, but the ability to rapidly change weapons can make some of the more hectic fights much easier.

Keep in mind, The Last of Us Part 2 will force you to get both of these items twice. We won’t spoil why or under what conditions, so rest assured this is going to be relatively spoiler-free. That being said, we will need to talk about some details such as locations, safe codes, and enemies will be revealed. Additionally, we won’t be providing photos right away since those alone can ruin some surprises.

Below is where you can find the Short Grip Holster and the Long Gun Holster in both sections of The Last of Us Part 2:

First Half

Short Grip Holster

You can get the Short Grip Holster when you first arrive in Seattle and are able to freely explore the city streets. This will typically be after you visit The Dome and collect the Stun Bomb. Open your map and head north to the corner of Spring Street and 5th Avenue. Stop outside of the coffee shop, break the glass, and go inside the store’s backroom. In the bathroom, you will find a Runner waiting for you, so quickly kill it and grab the Barkos Key on the changing table. Now head to Barkos on the corner of Marion Street and 6th Avenue. Enter the store through the alleyway using the key to find a WLF safehouse. In the back office, you’ll see the Short Grip Holster resting on the table.

Long Gun Holster

You won’t come across the dog holster until you’ve been introduced to the WLF attack dogs. After this sequence, you will eventually find yourself in a small part of town that has a rather big sinkhole in the middle of the street. Once you exit the bike store, to your left you’ll see a tattoo parlor and a salon. Go behind them either through the stores or jumping the fence in the alley. Approach the Auto Repair Store that has the front door blocked by a dumpster.

Move the dumpster and open the door to find five Runners just hanging out. Either use a Molotov or your shotgun to clear them out and approach the safe to the right. Enter the code 30 – 82 – 65 to open the safe and receive the Long Gun Holster inside!

Second Half

Short Grip Holster

You will find the second Short Grip Holster during your adventures through Seattle when the sun is setting. Early on, you will make your way through an area with a Chinese restaurant called the Ruby Dragon and other various shops you can visit. Just beyond those at the end of the street is an overgrown checkpoint you can climb over. To the right of the checkpoint is an abandoned salon, so head over and into the store. In the back room, you will find the Short Grip Holster resting on a table.

Long Gun Holster

This holster will not be available until you complete a rather terrifying sequence at night against the Scars and some infected. After you leave the motorhome and are able to control your character once again, head through the garage with the workstation. In the larger portion of this building, you will see a tiny office to your left. Either jump through the window or enter via the door to find the Long Gun Holster resting on a table.

These are some of the best pieces of gear you can find in The Last of Us Part 2, so always set aside some time to acquire them. Being able to quickly change weapons can make all the difference in a heated fight between hordes of infected and you.
