The beloved side-scrolling beat ’em up Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game has finally re-released after ten long years. Developed by Ubisoft, this game tasks players with battling through the enigmatic Ramona Flowers seven evil exes. While most will typically pick the dorky Scott Pilgrim as their character, this title allows you to select other members of Scott’s band and friends. When you start the game for the first time you will have access to five different characters, but players can actually unlock a sixth right away. Those initial characters are Scott, Ramona, Wallace, Kim, and Stills. The hidden sixth character is Knives Chau who is unlocked a different way for console players.
How to Unlock Knives Chau
If you want to play as Knives Chau, Scott’s third girlfriend, then you’ll need to link your game to your Ubisoft account. For PC players, since you have to purchase the game through Ubisoft’s storefront you won’t have to do any of this. Instead, when you boot up the game, Knives will be unlocked and playable right away. For PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One players, head to the Main Menu and then select Ubisoft Connect at the bottom. This will bring up a separate menu prompting you to either create an account or log into one.
After you log in, you’ll be pulled into the UPlay store, so just exit out of that and return to the game. You will now have access to Knives Chau from the character select screen. Knives is a close-range fighter that excels at fast hit and run tactics. While I recommend new players start with Scott since he’s probably the easiest character to grasp, Knives is also a solid choice. Remember, there is no other way to unlock Knives outside of linking your Ubisoft account to the game. So make sure you do this before you start playing. It should only take a couple of minutes if you need to make one and you get a free character so it’s worth the trouble.
For the unfamiliar, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition is a 2D side-scrolling beat em up that has you fighting waves of enemies throughout the harsh world of Toronto, Canada. This is a surprisingly challenging game — especially if you aren’t used to this genre. Thankfully, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game supports four-player co-op. Players will also earn experience as they progress, unlocking new moves and abilities that remain even if you die. So if you’re struggling early on, just keep going as you’ll eventually have a much easier time since you’ll be obtaining new skills. Just remember, all the experience you earn is tied to that character so if you’re level 12 on Knives and want to play Scott, he will be Level 1.
Make sure to try out all the characters a little before committing to one for the rest of the game!
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition is now available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4.
