If you’re looking for a new dungeon crawler, but one that isn’t overbearing with builds and stat management then Minecraft Dungeons might be for you. Playable either solo or with friends, you can battle all sorts of iconic monsters from this franchise in a hunt for more powerful loot. Even though the game is generally enjoyable, it’s much better if you have a few other players to battle through hordes of enemies. This will also make some the encounters a little simpler, especially towards the end when the difficulty spikes. Here’s how to play with your friends online in Minecraft Dungeons.

How to Play Online

When you first load up Minecraft Dungeons make sure to select Online Game in the bottom left corner. This will open up a menu allowing you to either host your own game or join a friend. You cannot load into a stranger’s game or host one for random players. So if you’re looking to just hop into other user’s instances, then you are out of luck. If you’re buying Minecraft Dungeons solely for the multiplayer, make sure you have a a few buddies who are picking it up as well.

If you want to be the host of a game, select Online Game and then Start Online Game in the top right. This will load you into your world where you can invite your friends. Now hit the F key (PC) / Select Button (Xbox One) to open up your friends list and invite who you want into the game. Minecraft Dungeons supports 4 player co-op and there are no additional online modes such as PVP. Once someone is in your game, you are free to play through the campaign and collect all the sweet, sweet loot.

How to Play Local Co-op

If you prefer to play with others in person, go back to the main menu, and select the Online Game | Change above the Online Game tab. Now highlight and pick Offline Game before loading up your world. When you’re in your camp, open up your friends list to connect the other players. Now all you have to do is have the other players make their Minecraft Dungeons characters and they will load into the game.

This title is superb for playing couch co-op, so if you’re looking for a game to play in-person then this is definitely worth a try.

  1. just spent way too long trying to solve this problem. Finally realized I had to create an Xbox account and then go in and give my child permissions. Not sure why you have to go through XBox to play on the Switch but it worked!

  2. when i click play online, the game says you can’t start an online game for the restructions. how can i fix that?
