Division 2 Overcharge Guide – Max Skill Tiers & How to Overcharge

With the release of Warlords of New York, Massive Entertainment has updated a lot of systems in Division 2. Skills are certainly one of those as every skill is now powered by a generic skill tier system rather than relying on specialized perks on your armor. You may notice a tier called overcharge. Our Division 2 Overcharge Guide will talk about unlocking this extremely powerful perk and explain the new skill tier system.

How to Increase Division 2 Skill Tier

You can gain additional Skill Tier by equipping armor pieces that have “Skill Tier +1” as a core attribute. There are a total of six skill tiers, which is enough to spread it evenly across all six of your armor slots. This is assuming, of course, that none of the armor pieces reward more than one skill tier.

Skill Tier is one of the most important traits for agents looking to make a skill build. And like we said earlier, the best news is that they’re now universal. If you want to switch skills you can easily do so though you’ll need to spend some time leveling it up.

Keep in mind that you can remove the “Skill Tier +1” core attribute at any Recalibration Station, allowing you to give that to any armor piece that you own. It’s not free, of course, and will require you to spend some currency and resources.

What Does Skill Tier Do?

In short, Skill Tiers increase the effectiveness of your skills. For example here are the upgrades for the new Shock Trap:

  • Tier 1
    • +2 Traps
    • +10% Shock Radius
    • +10 Shock Duration
  • Tier 2
    • +2 Traps
    • +20% Shock Radius
    • +20 Shock Duration
  • Tier 3
    • +4 Traps
    • +30% Shock Radius
    • +30 Shock Duration
  • Tier 4
    • +6 Traps
    • +40% Shock Radius
    • +40 Shock Duration
  • Tier 5
    • +8 Traps
    • +50% Shock Radius
    • +50 Shock Duration
  • Tier 6
    • +10 Traps
    • +60% Shock Radius
    • +60 Shock Duration
  • Overcharge
    • +12 Traps
    • +70% Shock Radius
    • +200% Shock Duration

How Do I Get Overcharge?

Overcharge is granted by specific items in their talents. Acosta’s Go-Bag, for example, has the One in Hand talent which gives you +1 skill tier for 15 seconds when damaging an enemy with a grenade. If you’re already at skill tier 6, however, it boosts the skill up to the overcharge level.

You can also get this from generic drops, though it’s incredibly rare. It also has the drawback of only activating overcharge when you use an armor pack which happens much less frequently than grenade throws. That said, you can take the backpack to the Recalibration Station and rip the perk out of it. That way you can put it on any backpack you want.

And that’s it for now! Warlords of New York is still pretty new and players are still discovering content and gear. We’ll be sure to let you know if there are any other pieces of gear with overcharge. Have a good skill build that uses this new feature? Share it in the comments below!

  1. So at the base of operations, then specialization. If you have technician equipped, you can go in and add 13 points for the “amped- passive talent” and that grants +1skill tier.
