Battlefield 2042 Weapons Guide – How to Unlock Every Weapon

Battlefield 2042 is finally here and it’s time to bring the explosive action this franchise has long defined. Set in the not-so-distant future, players can battle it out across massive maps that are being battered by superstorms. But all of that is set dressing — what really matters is the intense squad-based multiplayer experience draped in absolute chaos.

Similar to previous entries, there’s a healthy suite of guns that players can unlock and use to slay their foes. There are a total of 22 weapons — most of which won’t be available when you first load up the game. Here’s a guide on every gun in the game and which ones I recommend practicing with.

How to Unlock Weapons

When it comes to the base mode, you will need to unlock weapons by simply earning experience and leveling up your account. As you increase your level, more firearms will become available for you to use. You can see the level required to unlock a weapon in the Collection’s weapon menu. There are no additional challenges or other objectives you need to complete to unlock specific weapons. Simply focus on gaining experience by completing games and performing well in those matches.

If you’re just starting out, I recommend playing Breakthrough over Conquest. Not only is this a faster-paced mode, but you will also be thrust into the action constantly. This allows you to spend less downtime wandering around the large maps and more time killing foes, playing the objective, and supporting the team. All of these will earn you ribbons and experience towards your level. It will take some time to unlock every gun, so don’t feel like you need to rush through. Keep in mind all the firearms for Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3 are already unlocked.

Hazard Zone

Things are a little different in Hazard Zone. While you still need to unlock the weapons normally through experience, they won’t be available to use right away. Similar to games like Hunt: Showdown, you need to pay for weapons before entering a game. Your task is to extract drives, which will earn you Dark Market Credits, which you can then use to purchase other firearms, gadgets, and items.

Additionally, there is a free M5A3 you can use, but it comes with zero attachments and cosmetics. However, if you want your version of the M5A3, there is one that costs around 100 Dark Market Credits. Purchasing this will give you the attachments you have for that gun. So unless you plan on using the free weapon, be prepared to spend some money if you want to use your favorite gun.
