JRPGs set in contemporary worlds sure love to invite you to the movies, but Yakuza: Like a Dragon follows the tradition with a twist. Seagull Cinema presents a whack-a-mole like minigame where you smack sheep that are trying to put Ichiban to sleep across ten different films In this guide we’ll cover everything you need to know including the rewards and Bond level opportunities from this peculiar activity.
How to Unlock Seagull Cinema
In order to unlock this location and the minigame, you’ll have to reach Chapter 4 and complete the Old Cinema Paradiso substory. For this, head over to E Tsurukame Highway and walk just a bit north. You should notice two NPCs chatting at the entrance. After a brief cutscene you’ll be given the option to watch a movie. Take part in the minigame (which at this point serves mostly as a tutorial) and you’ll be set. You’ll even be rewarded with points towards Passion.
The explainers are useful enough, but the minigame really opens up after the substory, and there’s really no more tips afterwards. Don’t fret, though – we have you covered.
Movie Theater Minigame – Yakuza: Like a Dragon Tips
There’s a total of ten films to watch in the theater. The first one will already be available from the start, while the others will require you to successfully watch each movie in order without falling asleep.
Each of them are defined by difficulty (ranging from one to five), and cost 1,000 yen per ticket. Ichiban can watch them either on his own or with a party member, which is always best if you have the money to spare.
Doing so will increase the Bond level of the character you invite, and the amount of points obtained will vary depending on how much they enjoy the movie:
- 5 points if they didn’t like it
- 10 points if they liked it
- 15 points if they loved it
The latter also opens up a multiple choice question that grants an additional 10 points if you choose correctly. For example, Saeko will be thrilled to see Our Winter Sonata, and if you’ve paid attention to the (rather messy) plot of the movie, you will know that the answer to her question is that “they’re actually lovers separated at birth.” Pay attention to the plot to gain those bonus points!
As for the minigame itself, there’s a couple things you should have in mind. First, reaching a high score is important if you want a higher grade at the end of the screening. Goats give you 100 points, while chickens give you 300 points if left unharmed. Failing to hit sheep or accidentally smacking a chicken will decrease the same amount of points each.
There’s two more conditions that aren’t shown during the tutorial. One of them is Rapid sequences, which require you to mash the indicated button on top of a sheep. You will need five taps on these, and each grants you 50 points for a total of 250. The other is Rush Mode, which happens with more frequency depending on the movie’s difficulty. During this period, both sheep and chickens will appear and move faster with all of their scores doubled – including the negative ones.
We recommend to always prioritize the Rapid sheep as soon as they appear – just keep on mashing the button and stay on the lookout for others, taking your active focus on those as your finger keeps pressing the first one. Be careful around the chickens, too, as you can still attack them after they’ve clashed the cymbals.
Movie Theater Minigame – Movies List
You can watch movies as many times as you like, but remember that you will need to watch the latest in order to unlock a new film for your collection. Each of them grant you some bonus points towards a Personality stat, but only after your first viewing.
