Smash Ultimate Lucario Guide – Moves, Outfits, Strengths, Weaknesses

Smash Ultimate isn’t a franchise that shies away from classic characters. Although for some, Lucario might still need some introduction. The very popular Pokemon is a mainstay of its home series’ competitive scene. It was also the first creature shown to have a “Mega Evolution.” Whether or not that affects its status in Smash Ultimate is up for debate. But this grim-faced creature will certainly need something to stand out among its many, many peers.

Smash Ultimate sports 74 different playable characters at launch — including every single previous character from the super-franchise and a bunch of fresh faces. That’s not even including the glut of DLC fighters, assist trophies, and more. There’s so much that no one person could possibly keep track of everything. That’s why we’ve compiled a guide to every single character.

Lucario is notable for its late-game prowess. The nimble, martial artist-type’s flaming fists pack more punch as the battle drags on. That makes it a precarious fighter to pick indeed. Although some players that like to live dangerously may be able to harness the creature’s full potential.

According to Nintendo description of Lucario…

Lucario is the only fighter whose attack power increases as it takes damage. A fighter that truly shines when in a pinch, choose Lucario for a thrilling battle.

Lucario Moves

Aura Sphere (B) – Charges a ball of energy that can damage foes even while powering up. Pressing again launches it.

Force Palm (Side + B) – Unleashes concentrated energy with a powerful punch. Grabs enemies if they’re close enough.

Lucario Moves

Extreme Speed (Up + B) – Dashes through the air and attacks at the end. Can swerve midflight with directional input.

Double Team (Down + B) – Prepares for an incoming attack, and counterattacks with a sliding kick is struck.

Aura Storm (Final Smash) – Lucario Mega Evolves into Mega Lucario and jumps straight up. Then Lucario fires Aura straight down. The angle of the Aura can be adjusted left or right. Aim for opponents to deal the most damage you can.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Lucario is still the ultimate risk/reward character. His basic mechanic, Aura, makes you deal more damage as you take more damage yourself. This gives Lucario the most comeback potential in the game. As time goes on, his moves become even more devastating. Lucario excels with his back against the wall, banking on that one good move to seal the match in his favor.

But Aura is a double-edged sword; Lucario may do more damage at higher percentages, but less so at low-to-none. This, combined with his less-than-stellar mobility, makes Lucario easy pickings at the start of a match. Try to not get bullied right away and lock into one-on-one situations, where you can really shine.

Lucario Outfits

Well, would you look at that? It’s another palette swap character… Granted, Lucario (and most Pokemon for that matter) doesn’t wear cloths. So it would be hard for Nintendo to shake up the creature’s design too much. Although it would have been nice to see Mega Lucario represented in the final eight costumes. Still, Lucario gets points for being simple and brightly colored. That helps their alternate color schemes really pop against the background.

And that’s what we have to say about the “Aura” Pokemon! Its chi-like powers are certainly flashy, but what you ultimately do with them is up to you. Just try not to get Smashed before unlocking Lucario’s full potential with too much damage percentage.
