The new co-op multiplayer for Ghost of Tsushima is finally live, so it’s time to sharpen your sword, dawn your straw hat, and bring your spirit dog. Embracing supernatural elements of Japanese mythology, players assume the role of one of four Ghosts tasked with bringing down the evil demoness Iyo. Combining the single-players superb gameplay with loot and abilities crafts a rather unique action game. While you can go it alone, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is much better when you’re playing with friends. However, you won’t be able to play co-op right away, so here is everything you need to know about this title’s online component.

How to Invite Friends

When you boot up Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, you will need to progress through a prologue/tutorial first. This will introduce you to the four different characters, along with being a refresher of the game’s mechanics and controls. Once you complete the intro and pick a class, Legends will drop you into the main menu for this mode. From here, simply scroll down to Social and then select any friend you want to play with. You can invite up to three other players, regardless of what class they are playing.

After you’ve invited your friends, just go to Play Now and select which mode you want to start. I recommend starting with the main campaign since it will introduce you to the various enemies and overall setting. This is also the best way to acquire some early gear without any significant challenge.

What is Ghost of Tsushima: Legends

For the unfamiliar, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is a multiplayer loot-driven mode that has four players battling their way through hordes of corrupted monks. Each of the four classes boasts unique abilities that can give your team an edge in battle. For example, the Ronin revolves around healing and can instantly revive all of their downed teammates. Keep in mind, whichever class you pick at the start will be the only one available for your first few hours in the game. Legends locks players out of the other characters until they hit Rank 8, so pick carefully!

Just like the single-player component, Legends will see you acquiring new gear and abilities to power up your character. Every piece of non-cosmetic gear has a Ki number associated with it, which will raise your character’s overall Ki. The higher your Ki, the more difficult activities you can participate in. This creates a gameplay loot where you’re constantly improving your swordsman so you can tackle higher Ki content. While this isn’t on par in terms of sheer content as something like Destiny, it’s a terrific foundation for a mode that has a lot of potential. If you’ve been looking for a reason to hop back into Ghost of Tsushima, this is it.
