Since Season 5, developer Respawn Entertainment has dabbled with adding PVE elements to Apex Legends. However, they’ve always struggled to balance the introduction of computer-controlled beasts with players fighting one another in the battle royale. Whether it’s the Trials point of interest on World’s Edge or the nests of creepy, giant Spiders in Stormpoint, Respawn has nonetheless been quite keen on adding PVE creatures. Enter Stormpoint’s new IMC Bunkers, the latest PVE addition coming to Apex Legends in Season 13.

Scattered throughout this tropical map, IMC Bunkers are small loot-filled buildings that teams can raid. Once you arrive, players can activate a 60-second timer that causes waves of robotic Spectre enemies to attack. If you manage to survive, you can grab some exceptionally good loot and use the newly added Smart Bins. Similar to Lifeline’s ultimate, these Smart Bins tailor their loot to whatever weapons you are currently using, meaning they will either give you an upgraded attachment or supply you with one that you’re missing.

Of course, the biggest concern is another team rolling in while you’re busying fighting off PVE enemies. Thankfully, Respawn has made third-partying far more difficult due to the doors of the bunker locking once the PVE encounter begins. These doors cannot be opened by teams outside. If you are trying to fight the group inside, you’ll need to wait outside until they finish. Additionally, players can hit a pad in the middle of the bunker that launches them up into the air so that they can fly away. Sure, you can get shot out of the sky, but this is far more difficult than just waiting for the squad to funnel out of a small door.

Along with the IMC Bunkers, Stormpoint is getting a new POI (point of interest) between The Mill, Checkpoint, and North Pad. Called the Downed Beast, this POI features a giant dead sea creature along with various research buildings and equipment around it. While players can loot the surrounding area, the best gear can be found inside the monster itself. Respawn has confirmed this is a high-tier loot location, which will have the best items hidden in the literal belly of the beast.

Teams can climb onto the sea creature’s back and use this to achieve the high ground for the entire POI. There’s also a large crane that teams can climb onto, similar to the one found in King’s Canyon’s Salvage location. The Downed Beast is the only major POI added in this update; however, Respawn has added a few extra Prower and Spider Nests throughout the map. Notably, there is now a Prowler Camp near the Cenote POI, which will make rotations a bit trickier and more punishing for teams.

Season 13 also introduces Newcastle, a defense legend who specializes in protecting his teammates. There is no new weapon this season, and Respawn has not detailed any buffs or nerfs coming to the various legends. The next season of Apex Legends is set to launch on May 10 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
