CM Punk Will Face Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door

It's the AEW Champion vs. New Japan Pro Wrestling's Ace

Just moments after new AEW Champion CM Punk and ROH Tag Team Champions FTR won their trios match on AEW Dynamite, Punk took the mic and begged for his opponent at Forbidden Door to be revealed. Tony Khan and New Japan Pro Wrestling didn’t hesitate, playing Hiroshi Tanahashi out to the ramp with his signature music.

“We have a pay-per-view to sell,” Punk said moments before the thrilling moment took shape. Whether it headlines the upcoming All Elite Wrestling/New Japan Pro Wrestling crossover event in Chicago remains to be seen, but if it’s the main attraction it’s a huge one.

CM Punk, 43, is less than a year into his return in the ring after a seven year hiatus and he’s doing some of his best work against a who’s who of modern wrestling superstars. He won AEW’s highest men’s singles title this past weekend at AEW Double or Nothing in a fierce battle against Adam Page.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, 45, is a Japanese wrestling legend, an eight-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and one of the most charismatic people on the planet. I love looking at him. Everyone loves looking at him. He’s almost impossible not to love.

I mean look at him.

On June 26th, one of the hottest American wrestlers of the past two decades faces one of the hottest Japanese wrestlers of the past two decades. Seems too good to be true but it’s not!

This announcement almost, almost made me forget about the terrible edgelord rap Max Caster did fifteen minutes before. The less said the better.
