Tomohiro Ishii Entering to “Where Is My Mind?” on AEW Dynamite: A Review

It’s been a good week for NJPW‘s Tomohiro Ishii. Since arriving in the U.S. with Okada, the Stone Pitbull has gotten In-N-Out, won the NEVER Openweight Championship, and debuted on AEW Dynamite as the tag partner of his new stablemate, Orange Cassidy. Ishii and Orange vs. The Butcher and The Blade was an entertaining match for all the reasons anyone familiar with this group would expect, but there was also an early, less anticipated highlight: Ishii entering to Cassidy’s theme song, “Where Is My Mind?” by the Pixies.

In case you missed it, behold:

To commemorate this historic moment in wrestling history, here’s a microreview.

Tomohiro Ishii entering to "Where Is My Mind?" on AEW Dynamite

9.4

Pros
  • funny
  • immediate payoff to Best Friends re-joining Chaos and Orange, Stat, and Yuta joining Chaos
  • "Where is my mind?" is as valid a question for Ishii as it is for Orange. The guy does a LOT of headbutts
  • leads one to imagine Fight Club with Ishii in the Tyler Durden role, which is a very nice thing to think about
  • do you guys think Ishii was into grunge? (he was born in 1975)
Cons
  • probably would have been a funnier/better visual if the entrance was just Orange and Ishii (but that's not how the Best Friends group works)
  • this isn't a con, but I want to put it out there that if Ishii ever wants to come out to a different 1988 rock song, it should be "Every Rose Has Its Thorn"
