Most of the Fanbyte crew is playing Link’s Awakening this weekend, but if you aren’t for whatever reason then there are plenty of Switch games on sale to check out. No real theme this week — these bad boys run the gamut from fast-paced puzzles to contemplative nature-themed experiences. Hopefully you’ll find something you like. If not, well, it’s not like I get a commission on these or anything.
Overcooked — $17.49, down from $24.99 (until 10/7)
Working as a team, you and your fellow chefs must prepare, cook and serve up a variety of tasty orders before the baying customers storm out in a huff. Sharpen your knives and dust off your chef’s whites, there isn’t mushroom for error and the steaks are high in these crazy kitchens!
merritt says: A hectic couch co-op experience for up to four players, Overcooked is a fun if sometimes stressful experience. Please be cool to your friends when they mess up, because you’re absolutely going to as well.
Sonic Mania — $14.99, down from $19.99 (until 9/23)
Experience the ultimate celebration of past and future in Sonic Mania, an all-new 2D Sonic adventure running at a crisp 60FPS with stunning HD retro-style graphics. Multiple playable characters give you the ability to go explosively fast as Sonic, soar as Tails, or power through tough obstacles with Knuckles’ brute strength. You can re-live the Sonic of the past with an exciting new twist on classic zones while fighting against new bosses and Dr. Eggman’s evil robot army. Go head to-head with players in Competition Mode or play in Co-Op Mode with a friend. Sonic Mania was developed by Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games in collaboration with Sonic Team. Welcome to Sonic Mania!
merritt says: A love letter to classic Sonic, Mania feels like a lost Genesis game — albeit with much better quality music. Get the DLC to play as Ray and Mighty, two characters who’ve been MIA from Sonic’s world for decades.
Puyo Puyo Champions — $4.99, down from $9.99 (until 9/30)
Easy to learn, tough to master! Jump straight into fast-paced puzzle action with features fit for both friendly rivalries and competitive tournaments in Puyo Puyo Champions. Challenge your friends and family in local multiplayer or compete against players from around the world through online matchmaking. Built for all ages, this classic puzzle game comes with a surprisingly competitive edge.
merritt says: A stylish versus puzzle game that’s primarily focused on online play, Champions received an update earlier this month that includes a Lessons mode, which makes it a great way to get into the Puyo Puyo series.

The Deer God — $1.59, down from $7.99 (until 10/3)
The Deer God is a breathtaking 3D pixel art adventure that will challenge your religion and your platforming skills. It’s a game about survival, reincarnation, and karma; all set in a breathtaking and unique 3D pixelized world. Feast your eyes on the beautiful lighting, day and night system, and vast landscapes.
merritt says: A charming, if flawed adventure about surviving as a deer. If you’re looking for something different, this might fit the bill — and at its sale price, it might be worth giving a shot.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 — $20.00, down from $29.99 (until 9/23)
Valkyria Chronicles 4 takes place in the same timeframe as the original Valkyria Chronicles, but focuses on Squad E of the Federation. Commander Claude Wallace and his childhood friends set out to fight for freedom in this desperate war, but bone-chilling blizzards, waves of imperial soldiers, and the godlike powers of the Valkyria stand between them and victory.
merritt says: Done with Fire Emblem and looking for another anime-inspired tactics game? Valkyria Chronicles 4 might be a good fit. It doesn’t have the full-fledged romance system of Fire Emblem, but it does feature a romance story that plays out as the game progresses.
Team Sonic Racing — $19.99, down from $39.99 (until 9/23)
Team Sonic Racing combines the best elements of arcade and fast-paced competitive style racing. Face-off with friends in intense multiplayer racing, race together across stunning worlds and work together as a team by sharing power-ups and speed boosts. Take control of your racing style – Choose from 3 distinct character types and unlock game changing vehicle customization options to suit your racing style.
meritt says: Comparisons to Mario Kart are inevitable here, and Team Sonic Racing certainly isn’t on the level of that series. That said, it tries some genuinely new things for the kart racing genre. It’s a little disappointing that it drops the transforming vehicles from the previous game in the series, but there’s still something to be said for seeing Sonic the Hedgehog drive a car.
