Nintendo Switch Games on Sale Roundup — September 13, 2019

It’s Friday the 13th, and this week’s batch of Nintendo Switch games on sale is especially eerie. How so? Well, first off, there just wasn’t a whole lot to choose from this week — thankfully, what is on offer is pretty great. Secondly, the games I picked all ended up having single-word titles. Is that somehow significant? Maybe! Anyway, here they are. I have to get back to playing Borderlands 3.

The world-famous indie RPG UNDERTALE comes to Nintendo Switch! Fall into the underworld and explore a hilarious and heartwarming world full of dangerous monsters. Date a skeleton, dance with a robot, cook with a fishwoman…or destroy everyone where they stand. The future is yours to determine!

merritt says: Sans Undertale is in Smash and we’re nearing the one-year anniversary of Undertale on the Switch, so why not celebrate by taking another trip back to the underworld?

Hexlogic — $1.19, down from $2.99 (until 9/20)

Immerse yourself in the beautiful world of Hexologic. Solve challenging, yet rewarding puzzles, listen to relaxing music, dive deep in the game’s atmosphere and fall in love in sudoku again!

merritt says: A stylish, chill puzzle game that spins out Sudoku’s ruleset into something different. If you’re looking for a contemplative puzzle experience (as opposed to a hectic one like Tetris) this is for you.

Detention — $5.19, down from $12.99 (until 9/19)

Detention is a unique atmospheric horror game heavily influenced by Taiwanese/East Asian culture, religious elements and mythology. Based on the 1960s Taiwan under martial law, in this 2D atmospheric horror side-scroller, the player control characters who venture into the school beset by hostile supernatural events to uncover stories behind the haunted place.

merritt says: A historical horror game rooted in folklore? Yes please. Detention is being made into a movie that’s coming out in Taiwan later this month. No word yet on an international release, but if you play the game now you can that That Guy who read the metaphorical book first if and when it does come out.

Aragami: Shadow Edition — $17.99, down from $29.99 (until 9/15)

Aragami is a third person stealth game that casts you as an undead assassin with the power to control the shadows. Teleport to any shadow, become invisible, materialize weapons or even summon a shadow dragon to infiltrate the enemy ranks and dispose of your targets.

merritt says: There aren’t a whole lot of stealth games available on the Switch, so until we get a Splinter Cell HD collection or a Peace Walker port or something, Aragami is a perfectly good choice.
