Nintendo Switch Games on Sale Roundup — September 27, 2019

The goose is loose — everyone’s talking about Untitled Goose Game this week. But it’s just one of many great indie Switch games on sale this week. If AAA release season has you overwhelmed, maybe you’ll find something to like in this collection of discounted gems.

Minesweeper Genius — $1.19, down from $5.99 (until 10/3)

Inspired by the classic computer game from our childhood – as well as sudoku and picross – Minesweeper Genius is a brain teaser that will challenge your mind and logical thinking.

merritt says: After buying this on a whim I am now completely obsessed. If you’re into picross and want to try something a little different, it’s a steal at just over a dollar.

Untitled Goose Game — $14.99, down from $19.99 (until 10/4)

Untitled Goose Game is a slapstick-stealth-sandbox, where you are a goose let loose on an unsuspecting village. Make your way around town, from peoples’ back gardens to the high street shops to the village green, setting up pranks, stealing hats, honking a lot, and generally ruining everyone’s day.

merritt says: The internet has fallen in love with the goose game, and for good reason. It’s a fun, funny game about being an object immune to justice with no fail states or game overs. Plus it’s gorgeous and has a perfect soundtrack. Easy to recommend to pretty much anyone.

Crypt of the Necrodancer — $3.99, down from $19.99 (until 10/13)

Can you survive this deadly dungeon of dance, slay the NecroDancer, and recapture your still beating heart? Or will you be a slave to the rhythm for all eternity? Players must move on the beat to navigate randomly generated dungeons while battling dancing skeletons, zombies, dragons, and more, while grooving to the game’s award winning Danny Baranowsky soundtrack! You can even team up with a friend in local co-op mode!

merritt says: If you played through the more-recent Zelda-themed Cadence of Hyrule and want more, well, here’s the original.

Don’t Starve — $7.99, down from $19.99 (until 10/13)

In Don’t Starve: Nintendo Switch Edition, You play as Wilson, an intrepid Gentleman Scientist who has been trapped by a demon and transported to a mysterious wilderness world. Enter a bizarre and unexplored world full of strange creatures, dangers, and surprises. Learn to exploit the environment and its inhabitants to escape and find your way back home.

merritt says: It’s been a hit for years, and this version of Don’t Starve comes with the game’s expansions which add new characters and scenarios.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime — $8.99, down from $14.99 (until 10/3)

LOVERS IN A DANGEROUS SPACETIME is a frantic 1- to 4-player couch co-op action space shooter. Explore a colorful galaxy in a massive neon battleship that you control together by manning turrets, lasers, shields and thrusters. Only through teamwork can you triumph over the evil forces of Anti-Love, rescue kidnapped space-bunnies, and avoid a vacuumy demise. Deep space is a dangerous place, but you don’t have to face it alone!

merritt says: A chaotic co-op experience with a distinctive look that sees players working together to fend off foes. Maybe a little stressful for some, but a great time once everyone gets into the zone.

Thimbleweed Park — $9.99, down from $19.99 (until 10/13)

A haunted hotel, an abandoned circus, a burnt-out pillow factory, a dead body pixelating under the bridge, toilets that run on vacuum tubes… you’ve never visited a place like this before. Five people with nothing in common have been drawn to this rundown, forgotten town. They don’t know it yet, but they are all deeply connected. And they’re being watched.

merritt says: Thimbleweed Park comes with a strong pedigree — it’s from the same people who brought us titles like Monkey Island. The game frustrated some players on release, but later added a hint system that obviates the need to use walkthroughs.

Iconoclasts — $11.99, down from $19.99 (until 10/13)

Join renegade mechanic Robin and uncover the secrets of a dying planet. Explore a big world filled with intricate puzzles, interesting characters and menacing bosses in a beautiful platform adventure that tells a personal story about faith, purpose and the challenge of helping people.

merritt says: A game eight years in the making, Iconoclasts tells an involved story presented with beautiful visuals and classic 2D platforming.
