Are you having a good time with the Fallout 76 B.E.T.A. so far? We have been! Unfortunately, it looks like Bethesda is dealing with a particularly nasty bug this evening. Earlier tonight, they tweeted:

“Do not click any buttons on the client” is one hell of an instruction for folks scrambling to get into one of the game’s tightly-scheduled sessions.
Apparently, clicking in the client at some point today erased the entire 50GB-plus game from your machine (on PC, of course). It happened to one of our own, who had pre-loaded the game last night in anticipation for today’s session. He was saddened, to say the least, to discover simply interacting with the client deleted the game from his computer.
Ever the consummate professional, Andrew sent us this screenshot of his re-download progress. Bless.
To make matters worse, Bethesda had trouble keeping their official forums active. They also tweeted:
#Fallout76 B.E.T.A players: We’re currently experiencing issues with our community forums. So that we can view all of your B.E.T.A. feedback, we encourage you to visit the game’s @ reddit channel https://t.co/j58pZomwLL

Their official subreddit is a good spot to find answers for this problem. It seems like Bethesda is using the subreddit to collect feedback, as they’ve aggressively done since the beginning of the B.E.T.A. last week. In the meantime, Bethesda acknowledged the ongoing client issue and offered this advice:
PC #Fallout76 B.E.T.A. players: We are investigating an issue affecting B.E.T.A. preloads in the https://t.co/spj7OhagQy Launcher: If you are actively downloading the Fallout 76 B.E.T.A., or have a visible progress bar, please allow the download to complete.

The general word seems to be “just chill while the game is downloading.” That should be easy enough, but people really, really want to dive into this extremely different riff on the familiar game universe.
I had my own adventures with Fallout 76 last week and ran into some bugs of my own, though none of them eradicated the download from existence. As for the game itself, it’s fun! It’s not Fallout as we’ve grown to know, but the lonely exploration and world-building still strike familiar chords.
Check back with Bethesda Support’s busy Twitter account for updates. I’m sure Bethesda will fix the issues in time for the remaining B.E.T.A. sessions, but in case they don’t, the game is still just around the corner from full release. We’ll be able to VATS our way through the Appalachian countryside on November 14.
