EA has definitely had a tricky time lately. Battlefield 5 didn’t exactly light the world on fire (despite a battle royale mode that did literally that). Apex Legends was a genuine battle royale smash hit, but a feverish fanbase has since cooled. Though the game is still undeniably popular. Then there’s Anthem. The Bioware third-person shooter was met with a rocky launch and even rockier following few weeks. All of which adds up to a company in need of a win.
Thankfully, E3 2019 is just the place for EA to grab some attention. Sony has bowed out this year, leaving plenty of room for other publishers to take the spotlight. Anthem and Apex Legends are perfectly positioned for revitalizing content drops. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is also very exciting. It’s the next single-player focused effort from Titanfall and Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment. And lest we forget that Titanfall 2 had one of the best single-player campaigns in recent memory.

Naturally, FIFA and Madden 20 will also appear. Though it’s tough to say how much of a presence they’ll command at the show. Recent controversies (and potentially legislature) around loot boxes might have an especially big effect on FIFA 20. It will be interesting to see if the publisher addresses these issues at EA Play, or simply focuses on gameplay and new features.
It doesn’t seem like Battlefield 5 is completely down for the count, either. EA has given the game its own time slot during the press briefing. What might the publisher have up its sleeve? Out of all the live games EA currently has going, Battlefield definitely feels like the least talked-about (for better and for worse).
Speaking of games on the EA Play schedule, The Sims 4 is also on the docket. Though that’s not totally surprising. The series has a long history of endless content packs, expansions, and updates. It only makes sense that EA would keep that particular gravy train rolling. It might just be interesting to see what’s big enough that it deserves a spot during the E3 livestream.
