BlizzCon 2018 Opening Ceremony Recap – New Overwatch Hero, Warcraft III Reforged, Diablo Immortal

Day 1 of BlizzCon kicked off in Anaheim, CA today and Blizzard came prepared with a bunch of announcements during its opening ceremony. Some key highlights are the upcoming Warcraft III Reforged, a Diablo mobile title, Diablo Immortal, an all-new Hearthstone expansion, and Ashe, the latest Overwatch hero!

The rumors are true! Diablo is coming to mobile devices: Diablo Immortal, that is. The game takes place in the 20 years between Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction and Diablo 3. It seeks to answer a lot of questions like why Malthael abandoned heaven and what Deckard Cain was up to in that time span.

Blizzard has partnered with Netease for this MMO Action RPG which features six classes and promises new evils and horrors from the depths of hell.

Preregistration is available on both Android and Apple devices.

Heroes of the Storm

The first-ever Heroes of the Storm original hero has been announced, and her name is Orphea! Daughter of the Raven Lord, Orphea will be free in HOTS for all BlizzCon attendees and Virtual Ticket holders. If you’re a fan of the title and want to learn more about her, Blizzard has already released her Hero Spotlight.

We’ll find out more details as to what 2019 holds during today’s What’s Next panel, but Blizzard did tease new heroes, reworks, XP changes, role changes, and themed events.

Blizzard says the team’s goal in 2019 is “making games feel closer and more competitive” with these changes and hopes to answer community calls for content by delivering things like the Janitor Leoric hero skin.

Overwatch fans got a new animated short titled “Reunion” featuring McCree and an all-new hero: Ashe! Jeff Kaplin teased the arrival of new heroes including Echo, the white robot that appears towards the end of the cinematic but says that we’re not quite ready for them to join the fray.

B.O.B, the robot in the video, is actually joining the game too, but just as Ashe’s ultimate ability! You can catch her full details below.

Ashe’s semi-automatic rifle fires quick shots, or she can use her aim-down sights for a more damaging, precise shot.

Ashe throws an explosive that detonates after a short delay or immediately when shot. The explosion from Dynamite also lights enemies on fire, dealing damage over time.

Ashe blasts enemies in front of her, knocking them away and propelling herself backward for added mobility.

Ashe summons her trusted omnic sidekick, B.O.B., who charges forward and knocks enemies into the air, then lays down suppressing fire with his arm cannons.

Oh, also, Lucio-Oh’s are real and coming to stores in December thanks to a partnership with Kellogg’s.

The final expansion in Hearthstone‘s Year of the Raven is Rastakhan’s Rumble. A troll-themed expansion, it comes with 135 new cards with keywords like Overkill, new spirit cards, and extremely powerful Loa cards.

As has become routine, the expansion also comes with a free single-player expansion called Rumble Run.

Rastakhan’s Rumble is available for pre-purchase right now with certain bundles including an exclusive King Rastakhan Shaman hero skin

It will release on December 4, 2018.

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft Classic will release in the Summer of 2019! It will also be included in the standard WoW subscription. A demo is available on the show floor and for all virtual ticket holders at home from today until 10 a.m. PT on November 8.

Blizzard also debuted an all-new WoW cinematic featuring Anduin and Saurfang.

Warcraft III Reforged was also announced. The popular RTS is releasing sometime next year, but is playable on the BlizzCon show floor this weekend. It comes with 4K support and overhauled graphics for all 62 single-player missions, UI updates for a more modern design, and overhauled world editor.
