This piece will be updated when Bethesda’s E3 2019 conference happens on Sunday, June 9.
E3 2019 is already revving up, and the Bethesda press conference is primed to be one of the highlights of the show. The studio has a lot of possible announcements this year, including more Starfield details. The sci-fi and space-centric new game from the creators of The Elder Scrolls and more recent Fallout games is sure to be a marquee game as well. So of course everyone is ready to see the first Starfield trailer, gameplay, and new details.

That said, while the Bethesda E3 2019 press briefing will begin before E3 proper, it still hasn’t started just yet! So we don’t know quite what to expect from the major publisher. However, we can glean just a little bit of info from official details we’ve already heard, as well as rumors surrounding the Starfield release date and premise.
For instance, we know that Starfield is currently the priority for Bethesda ahead of The Elder Scrolls 6. Bethesda executive producer even cautioned Elder Scrolls fans to be “very patient” in the wait for news about the next fantasy game. Starfield, on the other hand, is the game Bethesda feels it needs to make sooner rather than later. Though “sooner” is still pretty subjective, in this case. This is Bethesda we’re talking about, after all…
Starfield Details at E3 2019
All of which is to say that you shouldn’t expect to see Starfield just yet. Howard has further confirmed that there will not be a new Starfield trailer or more details about the game at E3 2019. The same goes for The Elder Scrolls 6 — which makes sense if that game is even further off than Starfield. It’s just not particularly exciting news for anyone hoping for Starfield and Elder Scrolls gameplay at E3 2019. The previous teasers for the games were extremely short and opaque, without much for fans to chew on.
Meanwhile, rumors place the Starfield release date as late as sometime in 2020, or even 2021. That theoretically gives Bethesda an entire extra E3 or two with which to tease its upcoming sci-fi game. That’s assuming the trade show still exists in its current form by that time, of course. While Bethesda is maintaining a presence at E3 2019, the expo has definitely lost some of its major players — even including a hardware manufacturer like Sony.
But what else do we know about Starfield? Well, the game is clearly involves outer space to some degree. In the trailer (embedded above) we can clearly see a space station of some sort, just seconds before it gets swallowed up by some kind of wormhole or warp gate. Whether that’s a good, bad, or even intentional thing for the occupants aboard the station, who can say? We’ll know more as soon as Howard and the rest of Bethesda dole out details in future interviews. Just don’t expect to see those Starfield details at E3 2019. We’ve got just a bit longer to wait until we know more!
