Normally I’m opposed to running stories that are basically “we’re announcing an announcement.” A new game by Doom co-creators John Romero and Adrian Carmack is no different: just because you basically invented the first-person shooter doesn’t mean you get a free spin of the hype wheel from me. No sirs.
But. But look at this. It’s so charming and sweet, and Romero makes such a perfect wise old Jedi hermit. And Carmack, man, look at all the love and devotion in those eyes. Someone’s being called to a Great Purpose here.
I’ll refrain from commenting on the team’s new game, since they’ll be doing plenty of that themselves with the official announcement on Monday. Just bask in a couple old game dudes being dorks together for a bit. It’s a good time.
Disclosure: Romero and I have both been a part of the IndieCade independent game festival for the past several years.
