Ubisoft’s upcoming swashbuckler-’em-up Skull & Bones is basically the awesome sailing sections from Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag separated out into its own game. Actually, we’d put money on that being the actual pitch.
Players control a period-appropriate sailing ship, making use of headwinds and currents to wage naval warfare on other players across a wide open world (well, open sea). Additional ships including frigates and brigantines can be unlocked, as can additional ship armaments like cannons, mortars, and even rockets. First shown off at last year’s E3, we got a much clearer look at this seafaring action game at Ubisoft’s press conference on Monday, followed by a chance to test out one of these salty dogfighters (get it?) ourselves when the E3 show floor opened this Tuesday.
So, funny thing about our video capture guy? He turned out to be just offensively good at this game. Apologies in advance for anyone who has the misfortune of going toe-to-toe (bow-to-bow?) with him when Skull & Bones releases next year.
Skull & Bones is currently taking sign-ups for its closed beta, a date for which has not yet been set, but which will hopefully launch before the year is out.
