Resident Evil VII was announced during Sony’s press conference to cheers from the crowd. It won’t be too long of a wait, either: it’s out January 24, 2017 for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as the PC.
The title draws heavily from its survival horror roots, even heading back to a mansion like the first entry into the series did for a nice sense of nostalgia. Instead of a gothic mansion in the Arklay Mountains, however, this time around it’s a plantation in rural America. Players will explore the estate and uncover the monstrosities within, set sometime after the events of Resident Evil 6. Notably, Capcom is hoping to make for a scarier experience this time around, announcing that they’re ditching the series’ standard third person for first-person gameplay instead — hoping to bring players directly into the horror.
Capcom is also probably making REVII first person for virtual reality reasons. At E3 this year, virtual reality was everywhere and they were happy to announce that the entire Resident Evil experience will be VR capable as well.
If January seems too far off, don’t worry — Capcom put the demo up tonight for Playstation Plus subscribers. You can download Resident Evil VII Teaser: Beginning Hour starting now. You will also be able to preorder the game to receive a Survival Pack, which includes a special item set and an early unlock to the hardest difficulty note for true survivors.
