Take some of the hyperbole in the above video with a grain of salt, but it is a statement of fact that a lot of technical artistry goes into your typical big-budget game release, like Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Here, Eurogamer’s John Linneman draws attention to some of the subtler techniques which go into the game’s photographic verisimilitude: how faces flex and squeeze; how light penetrates through hair; how different textures reflect light in unique ways. It’s really interesting stuff, if you’re an animation nerd and want a closer look at how it all works.
