Buyer’s Guide: 4 great games to take back to school

Ah, autumn. Falling leaves, cooling temperatures, and the return of droves of students back to the hallowed halls of learning.

But, school doesn’t just have to be about studying. Whether you’re packing off to college yourself or chauffeuring the little ones to their first day of middle school, games can be a great way to relax and even make some friends. With that in mind, we’ve hand-selected a few games that are perfect for that back-to-school mood.

Overcooked 2

There probably isn’t a current-gen local multiplayer game that is better at making, breaking, and testing friendships than Overcooked. Take the role of a chef in a kitchen that demands carefully constructed cooperation with up to three of your friends, and you’ll find out who really has your back and who doesn’t.

Overcooked 2 just came out, offering even more levels of culinary chaos for you and your hall mates to try to conquer. Get ready, and get cooking.

Marvel’s Spider-Man

If you are looking for some solo, web slinging action, then the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man might be just what you are looking for to scratch that radioactive itch.

Developed by Insomniac Games (Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive), the latest Spider-Man game doesn’t hit until September 7th, but you won’t have to wait that far into the semester to jump into Peter Parker’s suit.

Monster Hunter World

The most recent entry in Capcom’s juggernaut multiplayer series was released earlier this year, bringing the Monster Hunter series into HD for the first time. The game has gone on to become Capcom’s best selling game ever, and has continued to roll out new monsters and content since its launch.

And, with World just hitting the PC, you have even more possible system options to hunt on. It might take up just as much time as one of your classes this semester, but it will be worth it.

Cuphead

Sure, it might seem counterintuitive to bring a game that’s harder than organic chemistry to school, but taking a break from the books to head into the animated world of Cuphead gives you a great excuse to blow off some steam.

And, with local co-op, you and a friend can both go through the bonding experience of dying hundreds and hundreds of times across colorful worlds, all while an amazing brass score accompanies the action. Hi-de-ho! Check it out, you won’t regret it.
