The Short Nite Film Festival Returns to Fortnite With Three New Shorts

Salty or sweet popcorn?

It’s been a while since the last Short Nite Film Festival in Fortnite, but if you missed watching shorts with friends in-game, you’re in for a treat. The event returns on May 12, featuring a total of ten shorts. Two of them are brand new premieres, while the tenth short has a different structure. But in essence, it’s the festival you already know: Hop into the Discover page, choose a short, and invite up to seven friends over with you to watch it together.

The Short Nite Film Festival of May kicks off on Thursday, May 12 at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET and runs until Monday, May 16 at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET. Depending on your plans for the week, it may be wise to save a slot or two in your schedule, as the event only lasts for a couple of days.

If this is your first time attending, here’s how it’s going to work. Once in the game, head over to the Discover page to find a selection of shorts. There are nine individual theater rooms, which are all built in Creative, so you won’t have to worry about defending yourself in battle royale modes. You can access them individually and just exit to pick another one, or start in any order and watch the ones that follow like a playlist.

For this edition of the event, the tenth short doesn’t have a room of its own. Instead, you’ll be able to see it in three parts that are scattered in the loop of all films. And as a reminder, you can group up with up to seven other players to watch in a group. But if the idea of chilling in a room doesn’t entice you, you can opt for Picture-in-Picture via the settings menu, which allows you to watch the shorts while playing the regular modes (Battle Royale, Zero Build, Creative, and so on). Lastly, the Snackin’ Emote will become available again in the Item Shop starting Wednesday, May 11 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET, in case you wanted to bring popcorn to the occasion.

This is going to be the first time I’m actively playing Fortnite by the time a new edition of Short Nite Film Festival rolls in, so I’m curious to see how it works and go in blind. Gathering friends for the occasion, though, may happen to be a bit harder. Good thing I like popcorn both sweet and salty to avoid any possible arguments.
