The First 13-Second Look at the Monster Hunter Movie Is Here

I stan this black Diablos.

Comic-Con Russia saw the debut of the first teaser for Monster Hunter this weekend.

It’s not a significant first look at the movie, clocking in at just 13 seconds. It also, like several video game movies, doesn’t immediately look great. Hilariously, at two seconds, a soldier looks through a scope with a closed eye. But it’s hard to tell much with a teaser as short as this one, so it’s worth reserving any strong judgment until its next showing. I do really like the look of this black Diablos, though. We stan a monstrous and menacing queen (for all black Diabolos are apparently female).

The movie’s synopsis, included in the description of the uploaded trailer on YouTube, is as follows:

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower.

In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown. Based on the global video game series phenomenon MONSTER HUNTER.

In an interview with Syfy Wire, director Paul W.S. Anderson said back in July that the movie is “100 percent finished.” While it was intended to be released on Labor Day weekend, it was then pushed back to April 23, 2021. But, according to this trailer, it’s been moved up to December 2020.

Because of the very much ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it might’ve been better for the movie to retain its April release date. No specific December date has been given, and it might still be subject to change since anything can happen this year.

As for the Monster Hunter game series, thanks to the massive popularity of Monster Hunter World, the famous series is rejuvenated and more beloved than ever. Capcom announced a new game, Monster Hunter Rise, for the Nintendo Switch just last month. It is planned to be released on March 26, 2021. You can watch the announcement trailer here.

Monster Hunter will premiere in theaters in December.
