ICYMI: Here’s Everything Shown at the Sonic Central Showcase

Shadow is coming to an animated series near you.

It’s not the 30th anniversary stream, but the Sonic the Hedgehog series is still pretty busy in 2022. As such, Sega held a Sonic Central showcase to talk about various projects featuring the blue blur and his friends. If you missed the show and want to watch it, check out the archived stream below. For everyone else, read our recap:

  • We got another look at Sonic Origins, an upcoming collection of some classic Sonic games: Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, which is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Switch on June 23.
  • Sonic is collaborating with Roblox with Sonic Speed Simulator, which includes levels based on the series, with playable Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.
  • The showcase then gave updates on various Sonic mobile games. Including Super Shadow and Mephiles being added to Sonic Forces, and Sir Percival coming to Sonic Dash.
  • In a new trailer for the upcoming Netflix show Sonic Prime, it’s been revealed that Shadow the Hedgehog, the best hedgehog, will be part of the series. Nothing else matters.
  • For some reason they showed a segment about Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the live-action movie that’s already done real well at the theaters and is on digital platforms.
  • Next up was a merchandise roundup, including a Jakks Pacific Eggman set, a Razer Xbox controller featuring Sonic art, Moor Art prints based on different eras of the Sonic franchise, new First 4 Figures based on Amy and Tails, Pez dispensers, an EXG Sonic controller holder, a retro Sonic statue. A lot of them look pretty damn good. Sonic’s merch team has been killing it lately.
  • The Sonic Symphony is going on tour, and I don’t know about y’all, but I’m going. I have listened to last year’s recording so much over the past year, and I need to go and cry about Sonic music in public.
  • Fall Guys is getting more Sonic skins, but the showcase stopped short of actually showing the Tails one.
  • There’s an animated short called Sonic Frontiers Prologue coming ahead of the game’s launch this year, and it seems like it will feature Knuckles in some way. So maybe Sonic Frontiers won’t be as isolating for the blue guy as Sega’s teased at this point.
  • Next up was some more combat footage of Sonic Frontiers, with a reminder that IGN is featuring the game as part of IGN First.

Aaaaaaaand that was about it. The two most exciting things for me are Shadow being part of Prime, and the Sonic Symphony tour.

Sega has been rolling out a month-long drip feed of Sonic Frontiers content as part of an IGN First cover story. It’s…I don’t know. It looks fine.
