As I began to write this article up, I realized there are so many different Resident Evil movie and television projects in the works right now, that I had to repeatedly check and make sure I hadn’t gotten Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City mixed up with the Netflix show or somehow gotten details mixed up with the animated show Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. But no, this is Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, a sort of retelling of the first two games in one brisk live-action-film-long go. And it has its first trailer. 4 Non Blondes are also here to sing “What’s Up?”, for some reason.
The trailer spends a lot of time with Claire and Chris Redfield, who are played by Kaya Scodelario and Robbie Amell respectively, as they look into the Umbrella Corporation, who any seasoned Resident Evil fan will know is bad news for everyone involved. Somehow in all of this, the film will also be focusing on Leon Kennedy (played by Avan Jogia), and his time as a cop in Raccoon City. It seems like the movie’s going to be playing with the timeline of all of these events, because Leon is the protagonist of Resident Evil 2, which took place months after the original game.

Alongside returning characters, there’s a neat callback to the original game’s iconic zombie reveal moment that, even as a mostly lapsed Resident Evil fan, did elicit a chuckle from me.
