Pokemon Legends: Arceus Trailer Hints at Hisuian Variants for Starters

Decidueye, Typhlosion, and Samurott will have new forms in the game.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is imminent, as we are just three days away from heading to the Hisui region on January 28. As such, Game Freak and The Pokemon Company have released a new trailer of the game. While much of it is just a supercut of players running around its (not open-)world, it does allude to something that anyone who’s been paying attention to the leaks already knows: the game’s starters have new Hisuian variant final evolutions.

Yes, Decidueye, Typhlosion, and Samurott will have Hisuian regional forms when you level up your starter Pokemon to their final evolution in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The trailer itself only shows their silhouettes, but there’s enough going on that you can see some differences. Like Decidueye has a hat. And…that’s really about it. As with many regional variants, these Pokemon have different typing, so be ready to adjust your team accordingly for something a little different as you play through Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is more or less the cap-off of the franchise’s 25th anniversary last year, which included several other games like the MOBA Pokemon Unite, a sequel to Pokemon Snap, and the Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl remakes. Legends takes place in the Hisui region, which is a historic version of what will eventually become the Sinnoh region, where Diamond & Pearl are set. Hopefully, the game takes greater advantage of the setting, because while Sinnoh is supposedly the origin point for much of the Pokemon universe, Diamond & Pearl (and their remakes) don’t do a ton with the lore.
