Pokemon’s Two Upcoming RPGs Are Coming Out Two Months Apart

Catching 'mons throughout the holiday season.

The Pokemon series is about to have a pretty busy few months later this year. Both Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl and Pokemon Legends Arceus have official release dates on Switch.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of the original Nintendo DS RPGs and will come to the Switch on November 19 of this year. Moreso than past remakes in the franchise, these two are trying to be more true to the source material. This can be a good thing, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t gotten fans wishing for something that maybe aspired to more.

However, Pokemon Legends Arceus does seem to be a step in a more radical direction for the series with what seems to be an open-world structure and a setting before most of what we know as modern culture in the Pokemon universe. The standalone game will be on Switch a few months after Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on January 28.

Alongside the announcement, the Pokemon Company released the official boxarts for all three games.

The Pokemon franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Alongside all these video games, the Pokemon Company is also putting together a music initiative featuring artists like Post Malone and Katy Perry. Earlier this month, Perry released a new song called “Electric,” accompanied by a super cute music video co-starring Pikachu. Post Malone held a virtual concert to celebrate the anniversary back in February, and while the actual live event side of it was iffy, the whole thing worked really well as a music video.
