If you’ve run out of Pokemon to snap in New Pokemon Snap, fret not. Nintendo is releasing a free update to the nature photography simulator at the start of next week.
On August 3, players will gain access to a handful of new areas. Along the new scenery comes new Pokemon to take photos of. The update is also bringing in a section where players will shrink down, allowing them to get an unprecedented look at some Pokemon on a scale they haven’t been able to until now. If you’ve ever wanted to see Wurmple from the perspective of something half its size, this is your chance to do so.

New Pokemon Snap launched back in April as one of the tentpole games celebrating the franchise’s 25th anniversary. It was gorgeous to look at and there were plenty of fun shots to take, but it did run against everything photographers usually do to set up good photos. More recently, Pokemon Unite a MOBA set in the Pokemon universe, launched on Switch as a free-to-play game. On November 19, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, remakes of the original DS games released in 2006, will launch on Switch.
Beyond video games, The Pokemon Company has been collaborating with musical artists to bring out an album celebrating the 25th anniversary later this year. So far, Post Malone, Katy Perry, and Mabel have released new songs with more to follow throughout 2021.
