Pokemon Legends: Arceus has always looked like a pretty big departure from the usual Pokemon formula, but it becomes pretty apparent how many new systems are in place when it’s all laid out in front of you. That’s the goal of the latest trailer for the RPG, which is a lengthy overview of all the game entails.
The 13-minute trailer shows you all sorts of ways you’ll be interacting with the Hisui region, which is a past iteration of the Sinnoh region seen in Pokemon Diamond & Pearl. That historic setting means a lot of the series’ modern-day trappings are gone, and it fundamentally changes parts of the loop. You’re on a quest to capture and document Pokemon in Hisui, but you’ll have the chance to capture them in an active way instead of always taking part in the series’ usual turn-based battles.
Beyond that, the trailer also covers topics like requests you can take from people around the world, traveling across the expansive maps with the help of Pokemon, and the new attacking styles that bring a new dimension to battles. There’s a lot to walk through, so check out the full gameplay preview below:

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is coming to Switch on January 28. It comes just about two months after Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl also came to the handheld/console hybrid, so Pokemon fans have been pretty busy these past few months. Well, even this past year, as the series’ 25th anniversary brought other games like Pokemon Unite, and even a pretty good pop album compilation with artists like Post Malone and Katy Perry involved.
