The PUBG Mobile and Evangelion Crossover is Deeply Cursed Material

You Must (Get) Jiggy With It

PUBG Mobile is currently hosting a limited time collaboration with ’90s mecha anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, and it is truly bizarre.

The robotic crossover merges elements of NGE‘s original 1995 series run with the recent Rebuild of Evangelion films. It features purchasable Evangelion skins including plugsuits for Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley Sohryu, Mari Makinami Illustrious, and Kaworu Nagisa.

You can also obtain a Evangelion Unit-01 skin, a Pen-Pen penguin companion, and some colorful Extreme Armor models based on NERV and the giant robots that everybody loves. A few of the armor sets, backpacks, and other collectibles are locked behind the “Evangelion Discovery” battle pass, which requires players to drop into a bunch of games daily to obtain the rewards.

Perhaps the most haunting part of this collaboration is the emotes. You can wear EVA-01’s armor, or the skin of any Evangelion pilot and get ridiculously freaky with it. I’ve never wanted to see a colossal alien robot throw it back, but now that I’ve seen it, I… can’t look away. The awkward moves are cosmically mesmerizing. It’s so unnatural, yet so perfect.

In addition to uncanny cosmetics, you can check out EVA-01 square up with Rammiel, the Sixth Angel in the new ‘Core Circle’ mode that’s hitting the Livik and Erangel maps right now. Playing this game mode will help progress the Evangelion Discovery pass in addition to regular matches, so it may give you the boost you need to unlock Shinji.

Neon Genesis Evangelion isn’t PUBG Mobile’s first animated collab, they’ve previously featured content from Jujutsu Kaisen, Black Lagoon, and League of LegendsArcane. This sad boy, mech-themed crossover is running from May 14, 2022 to June 19, 2022. So if you want to check out you better do it soon before it all returns to nothing.
