Happy November! You know what that means. No, not the U.S. presidential election. I pretend I do not see it. (But, also, please vote in person or drop off your ballot if you already haven’t.)
I’m saying it’s the month of Miles Morales, an Afro-Latinx king. And, ahead of the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, he’s getting what he deserves: the debut of the ridiculously stylish and incredible Into the Spider-Verse suit that he’ll be able to wear in the game. Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed the second pre-order bonus this past week with an 11 minute-long gameplay video showcasing the look.
It’s one thing for developer Insomniac Studios to have included the skin, which would’ve made people happy enough. But the developers decided to outdo themselves and make more than just a costume. Instead, the developers, and specifically the animators, have beautifully replicated Into the Spider-Verse‘s iconic comic books-inspired animation style.

There’s no other way around it: it’s a gorgeous technical marvel. I love the little details, like the integration of pop-up words and burst cards into action sequences. They’re just as stylish — noticeable but not too flashy or distracting from the combat. Overall, it looks amazing, and it’ll be hard for me to want to play this game wearing any other suit. I’m not a huge superheroes fan, but I adored Into the Spider-Verse. It’s a stunning and heartwrenching film, unforgettable in its visual glory and equally witty and emotional writing. I’m so happy to see its special visual style again — and to see it sooner than expected since Into the Spider-Verse 2 has been delayed to Oct. 7, 2022.
Know that, if the low-frame animation that mimics the movie isn’t your style, it is a Suit Mod that can be enabled, disabled, and even used on other suits. The suit comes with any pre-order of the game, but it can be unlocked in the game, as well. Most importantly: yes, it is free.
Watch it in action in the video above. While the animators have impressed so many excited fans with this reveal, this is the result of the labor of many people across different teams both within and outside of the development studio. Mike Fitzgerald, Core Technology Director at Insomniac Games, has made a lengthy and important Twitter thread detailing the work that went into creating this incredible suit mod.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on Nov. 12. If you get it on the PlayStation 4 first, you can upgrade for free on the PlayStation 5 later on. The Deluxe Edition of the game, which is only available for the PlayStation 5, will include the exclusive Spider-Man Remastered, which includes a remastered version of the base 2018 game and its DLC.
