Crystal Dynamics and Square-Enix have announced that Marvel’s Avengers‘ long-awaited next-gen upgrade will launch next month. The game will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 18, and will be free to anyone who owns the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
This news came as part of War Table Deep Dive focusing on Hawkeye, the next DLC character for the game that will launch on the same day as the next-gen version. Hawkeye brings with him a “what if” scenario about a world ending cataclysm. This is “heavily inspired” by the Oldman Hawkeye comics, which follows the archer as he avenges the rest of our heroes as the last Avenger standing. Meanwhile, a present day story based on the My Life As a Weapon series will follow Hawkeye as he fights Maestro: a maddened Hulk. As for Hawkeye’s playstyle, he uses his bow for ranged attacks, several of which are used for crowd control. But he also uses a sword as a reference to his time as Ronin. So he’s proficient at most ranges.

Hawkeye is the second DLC character added to Avengers behind Kate Bishop, who also holds the Hawkeye moniker in some continuities. Efforts were made the ensure both characters were distinct in playstyle, as the two’s movesets have similar strengths, but are utilized differently. As for what other heroes are coming to Marvel’s Avengers, Spider-Man has been confirmed as a PlayStation exclusive character, but leaks have surfaced that imply fan favorites like Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Dr. Strange are on the way, as well.
