Still going fast.

Weird crossovers of Sonic in places he shouldn’t be

Sonic and friends are making appearances in a handful of games this year. A Sonic skin will be available in Olympics Games Tokyo 2020: The Official Video Game so he can compete in all the sporting events. If you want to add Sonic and friends to the horrifying realities of the American healthcare system, Sonic skins and cosmetic items are coming to Two Point Hospital on July 30. And lastly, Sonic The Fighters will be a playable arcade game in Lost Judgement when it launches on September 24.

Sonic Colors Ultimate

Mobile games

The Sonic mobile games are hosting some limited-time events soon. Sonic Dash is having a pirate-themed event, which will include pirate skins for Sonic and objectively superior hedgehog Shadow. The mobile version of Sonic Forces will also be seeing new content as Super Sonic joins the roster of playable characters. Later this year, the game will also allow players to set up private races with friends, but it sounds like this will be a limited-time event. Also, Sonic’s werehog form will be coming to both games.

Closing out the mobile announcements, Sonic Racing on Apple Arcade will be getting Classic Sonic as a playable character.

Sonic Prime

Joe Kelly, the showrunner behind the upcoming Netflix animated series Sonic Prime, talked a bit about the show set to premiere in 2022. The 24-episode series will follow Sonic in a new story separate from any of the games.

Sega has partnered with several manufacturers to create new Sonic merchandise. Jakks Pacific has created an Eggman Robot playset. King Ice has collaborated with Sega to make jewelry featuring Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Shadow’s likenesses. Dark Horse is releasing a physical encyclopedia of the franchise’s 30 years of history.  And lastly, Apmex is creating silver and gold coins branded for the series’ 30th anniversary.

New Game

While that’s a lot of old stuff, Sega and Sonic Team are also working on a new mainline game in the series. It’s coming in 2022. And we know literally fucking nothing about it beyond a teaser of Sonic running about and that it’s coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
