Genshin Impact 2.4 Adds Costumes, Shenhe Banner, and Ningguang Hangout Events

Also, Beidou watching fireworks with Ningguang.

MiHoYo announced its next Genshin Impact update, Version 2.4 Fleeting Colors in Flight, launches just in time for the New Year on January 5. With Teyvat’s next story arc comes new character banners, costumes,  another year of the Lantern Rite Festival, the return of the Jade Chamber, and what appears to be a lot of screentime for one of Genshin’s best characters, Ningguang.

Both Yun Jin and Shenhe release next month, with the former running as a four-star character throughout the patch while the five-star Shenhe debuts for a limited time on January 5. MiHoYo is hosting its double five-star up rates once again for its next banners, so Xiao will join Shenhe as the other five-star option. Once those end, phase two of 2.4 welcomes both Zhongli and Ganyu back—arguably some of the strongest picks for your Genshin Impact roster, especially Ganyu.

Fleeting Colors in Flight adds more fashion, too. MiHoYo is giving away Ningguang’s fancy new look, Orchid’s Evening Gown, while Keqing gets another paid outfit with her formal attire, Opulent Splendor. They’re ensembles for Liyue’s Lantern Rite Festival, an annual event rewarding players with a free four-star character from the city, 10 Intertwined Fates, and other in-game goodies.

New faces and fits aside, Genshin Impact is also sending us to a formerly unexplored area, Enkanomiya. It’s a dark, abyssal place nestled in the ocean depths where new enemies hide. The Bathysmal Vishaps are among said foes, hunting together in packs to take down your team in unfamiliar waters, and then there’s the Pyro-wielding Abyss Lector: Fathomless Flames that burst through your team’s shields. The area looks incredible, and MiHoYo keeps improving upon its formula for these zones, but we may explore Enkanomiya a little clearer as the studio also shared details on optimization changes in a PlayStation Blog for the patch.

That’s all great and good, and I’m quite thrilled about the upcoming Genshin Impact patch, but the most important bits are tucked away in all of like, two seconds. If you fast forward the trailer above to the 43-second mark, you’ll see Ningguang and Beidou sharing a moment watching fireworks at the Lantern Rite Festival. They also have a little back-and-forth later on when discussing how to tackle the battle ahead. I don’t care what anyone says, they 100% smooch when the Traveler leaves and I refuse to hear the contrary. Ningguang is in the upcoming batch of character Hangout Events too—MiHoYo knows what’s up.

Back in Version 1.1, A New Star Approaches, Nigguang sacrifices her Jade Chamber to protect Liyue from an ancient god. That story beat wrapped up over a year ago, but it looks like reconstruction efforts have the new lookout point over Liyue up and running. It’s a moment that seems fleeting, as the new 2.4 trailer reveals its biggest goosebumps-inducing moment with Ningguang willing to sacrifice everything again. While Genshin Impact’s newer arcs are still my favorite, I’m keen on returning to Liyue and seeing the city continue its rebound from that fateful day. Also, I’ll do anything for a Beiguang moment, thanks.
