It was not that long ago that the idea of the Dark Pictures Anthology, a series of horror games from Until Dawn developer Supermassive, was one of the most exciting things happening in gaming. Now, after Man of Medan and Little Hope, I don’t really feel that way anymore. Both games had immense potential that kind of fell apart at the end and I’m hoping against hope that the upcoming House of Ashes does not fall into the same trap.
A teaser trailer released from Bandai Namco is encouraging, however.
The teaser trailer shows a soldier coming across another dead soldier, who is quickly grabbed by a seeming monster and thrown back out. The monster then pursues the original soldier as the teaser ends.
This all seems great! But I am so suspicious of these games now after the last two that I am begging Supermassive to please have a different kind of twist. The last three games have had the exact same kind of twist, though it was midgame for Until Dawn, and I really just need them to try something else here before I can get excited.
House of Ashes might be that game! They could really have changed this one up! But I can’t bring myself to be optimistic for it until I get in there and see for myself. The full gameplay reveal will be on May 27 and the game itself is targeting PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5 this year.
