When Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl were announced as more faithful remakes of the original DS games, one of the biggest questions was if it would bring back HMs, attacks that various Pokemon could learn that would be used in the games’ overworld to navigate through environments and overcome obstacles. These were eventually phased out of the series, as fans never liked taking up move space to accommodate them. However, that wasn’t the case in the original Diamond & Pearl, so it was a perfectly legitimate fear that the antiquated system might return in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. But a new trailer for the remakes has confirmed it won’t.
The new trailer showcases a fair bit of new footage for Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, from making Poffins to taking strolls with your Pokemon at Amity Square. But most significantly, it’s been confirmed HMs will be accessed through an app, rather than taking up a slot in one of your Pokemon’s precious moves.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl weren’t the only Pokemon games getting an update today, as we also got a new trailer for Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which showcased “Noble Pokemon,” which seem to be boss battles in the game’s open world. This was illustrated with Kleavor, a new Pokemon in the Hisui region, which will one day become known as the Sinnoh region.
Also shown were the Wardens, who are trainers who protect certain Pokemon, character customization options, and more riding Pokemon to navigate the larger areas of Legends: Arceus.
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are coming to Switch on November 19, with Pokemon Legends: Arceus following on January 28 of next year.
