Game Over

5.6

When a player loses all their lives (or simply decides to quit) in Banjo-Kazooie, they are treated to a cutscene in which the villain Grunty steals Banjo's sister's youth and beauty, turning the latter into an enraged monster.

Pros
  • Grunty nice
  • Good motivation to never, ever run out of lives
Cons
  • A confusing mixture of sexual titillation and psychological horror combined with terrifying music that burned itself into the developing minds of many a young player, with long-term results that are still being sorted through in the offices of therapists to this day
  • Happens even if you just quit playing to take a break
