Square-Enix has announced Forspoken won’t be making its originally projected May release date, as the PC and PlayStation 5 action RPG has been delayed until October.
News of this came through posts made on the game’s social channels, which announced a new release date of October 11. The Luminous Production team says it hopes Forspoken will be viable for “years to come,” and wants to make sure the game launches in a state that can cultivate that kind of long tail.
The full statement reads as follows:
We have made the decision to move the release date of Forspoken to October 11, 2022. Our vision for this exciting new IP is to deliver a game world and hero that gamers across the globe will want to experience for years to come, so getting it right is extremely important to us. To that end, during the next few months we will focus all our efforts on polishing the game and can’t wait for you to experience Frey’s journey this fall.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We look forward to sharing more about Forspoken with you soon.

Fanbyte News Editor Imran Khan saw a preview of Forspoken back in December, and while he was confused by some of the language used by the developers as they spoke about the game, he said it appeared to be addressing some of the issues he had with Final Fantasy XV, which the team says it learned a lot from.
“Overall, I’m not sure if I needed to be more sold on Forspoken, but I’m definitely interested in playing it still. There’s a number of unanswered questions, but my two major issues with Final Fantasy XV were movement and story, and those at least seem to be Luminous Studio’s two major focuses this time around.”
