Last month, Atlus announced that Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is getting remade for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch next spring. However, the reveal trailer that came with the announcement seemed to be based on the Maniax Chronicle Edition, which included an appearance from Raidou Kuzunoha, a character from the Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner subseries. However, those that played the original version that came to the west know this character’s role was originally inhabited by Dante from Capcom’s Devil May Cry series. So when Dante was nowhere to be seen in trailers for the remake, fans assumed the demon hunter wouldn’t be making his (often memed) appearance for a new generation of players. But Atlus has announced he will be making a return…but as paid DLC.
In a new trailer released on Atlus’ Japanese YouTube channel, it was revealed that the Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne remake will be getting either Raidou or Dante depending on whether or not you shell out an additional 980 Yen (which is roughly $10 USD) for the “Maniax Pack,” which will allow you to pick who between Dante and Raidou will appear throughout the game at the outset.
It’s worth noting that Dante’s appearance won’t be as simple as adding in cut content, as the Nocturne remake will include voice acting that wasn’t present in the original game that came out on the PlayStation 2. As such, bringing in voice actor Reuben Langdon (who is honestly due for a recast) to record Dante’s lines will be cost more than the base game’s budget for content that is already being “replaced” by the appearance of Raidou. But if you’re not down to pay extra money for old content, that’s fair and it’s your prerogative to not take part.

Beyond the Nocturne remake and the Dante DLC, Shin Megami Tensei is also working its way up to a new mainline game in Shin Megami Tensei V. The game is planned to come to the Switch in 2021, and will be getting a worldwide release. While Shin Megami Tensei is the darker mainline series, the Persona subseries has spun off on its own, to the point where it no longer sports the SMT branding. The series’ latest release in the west was in the form of Persona 5 Royal, a definitive edition of the original Persona 5 with new content, quality of life improvements, and a new ending. Back in February, Japan got a new spin-off called Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, which is a Dynasty Warriors-style game set in the Persona universe. While no official release date or information has been given, it was confirmed in an earnings call that the game will, at some point, be coming to the west.
